Books Essential for Preschoolers in Halifax

November 25, 2008

We are approaching our one year anniversary in Halifax, and when we first arrived we knew so little about life in the Maritimes. I would venture to say we still only know the tip of the ice burg! Our preschooler had (And always will have) endless questions about our new city and province. We did the best we could to answer her, took her to the local museums then headed to the local library to start reading about life by the sea. Here are some of our preschoolers favourite books relating to Halifax and sea life.

  1. Fog cat by Marilyn Helmer - One of our absolute favourite books.
  2. A Halifax A B C by Yolanda Poplawska - A great introduction to Halifax Landmarks.
  3. By the sea : an alphabet book  by Ann Blades - Also awesome for letter recognition.
  4. A treasure at sea for dragon and me : water safety for kids (and dragons)  by Jean Pendziwol - A fun look at water safety.
  5. I'm the best artist in the ocean by Kevin Sherry A big squid with a big attitude. Always makes our preschooler giggle.
  6. Something's fishy! : jokes about sea creatures by Rick & Ann Walton - Jokes are something that our preschooler is just getting into and loved this fun sea joke book.
What are your favourite books related to where you live?
