Tips for Last Minute Holiday Shopping

December 23, 2008

Yesterday, Leah Whitehead from CTV invited me to discuss tips on last minute shopping. I was flabbergasted, honoured and totally nervous! (note to self in future interviews take your coat off!)

We discussed a lot of tips that due to time were not included in the segment that I want to share with you here. I have completed my Christmas shopping in part because I could never handle the pressure of last minute shopping.

  1. Go early - the malls and shops are still quieter in the mornings. If you wait till lunch, it is going to be insane!
  2. Take a list - At least of names that you need to buy for. It would totally suck to make it home to discover you forgot to buy Uncle Greg a gift.
  3. Head out to specialty stores - Woozles and Uncommon Kids are great sources for amazing gifts (and stocking stuffers). When you get off the beaten path there are less shoppers to contend with.
  4. Be nice - everyone just wants to get their shopping done and get home to their families, just like you. Tis the season to be kind!
  5. Purchase consumable gifts. I mentioned last week, great local memberships. Movie tickets, coupons for free babysitting for your friends, even gift cards could save your sanity this close to the big day.

Thankfully, one of my favourite tips was not cut from the segment. Keep it simple. To children, everything is magical, you are not likely to disappoint!

Have a very wonderful holiday season everyone!
