5 Fun Facts about Canada for Children

It is Canada's birthday tomorrow! In honour of that , today's list is all about Canada. Celebrating our nation's birthday is the perfect time to teach your children little facts about Canada. Here are a few to get the topic started.

  1. The Beaver - Our national icon, is credited for the expansion and exploration of Canada.
  2. Sugar Maple - Our tree. Hence where we get the maple leaf on our flag.
  3. Santa Claus - Canada is widely believed to be the home of Santa Claus. The belief that the North Pole is owned by Canada is false. No country owns the North Pole.
  4. Inventions - Many inventions including basketball, the electric light bulb, the electric range, the electron microscope, the telephone, standard time, the television, and the zipper, and the first snowmobile were invented in Canada.
  5. French & English - We have two official languages. In order to work some government jobs, bilingualism is required.
