Preschoolers Like to "Work" Too: Jobs Around the House for the Li

Preschoolers are learning so much about the world. In everything they do it is an opportunity to learn, explore and be creative. So often we witness preschoolers playing house, going to work and pretending to do chores. It is their way of making sense of the world and what they see. We have a play kitchen that our daughter has spent endless hours cooking and baking in. Having chores not only helps them master new skills, it gives children a sense of responsibility, develops independence and promotes strong self-confidence.

Getting Your Kids Hooked on Veggies

I feel very fortunate that my preschooler has an amazing appetite and is willing to try just about anything. My toddler on the other hand is a challenge on the best of days. Since we try to keep our grocery budget in line, we usually have at least one meatless meal a week. When I share this tidbit with other moms, they are usually in awe and often ask what I make. I should mention "meatless" for us means meat. Not necessarily eggs and fish. On our meatless days we opt for refried bean wraps, eggs, steamed fish or homemade mac and cheese. We also have sliced cucumbers at every meal, although with peas or corn as a side. Since the cucumbers are always there, both my kids eat them without thinking about it.

Composting with Children

I would have loved to talk about heading outdoors, exploring the Public Gardens, heading to the Valley to explore some farms and the like. However it is just to early in our part of the world to make plans like that. It is not until May that places like the Public Gardens open to the public.
