Acting like Chimpanzees!

July 13, 2009

It was so beautiful last week. I hope everyone had the opportunity to enjoy the sunshine! The kids and I spent every moment we could outdoors, headed to playgrounds, played in the backyard and went for walks.

Once again our sun has disappeared. It is hard not to get discouraged. We had planned a teddy bear picnic for today to celebrate my daughter's fifth birthday however the weather has caused us to reconsider.

What's Happening - March in Halifax

March 11, 2009

While we all pine for spring weather, March has begun and given us more snow! Ack! However we have had some nice weather melting the ice and snow away. It is only a matter of time and spring will arrive! March brings Spring Break for schools, so there are a lot of activities going on that week. Being that we do not have school age children yet, we usually lie low that week, spending time with friends at playdates rather than fight the crowds. Here are a few things that are happening this month:

Looking to break those winter blues? Here are a few activities going on in and around Halifax this weekend to consider with your family. We saw Little Ray's Reptile Show last year at the Natural History Museum and it was fantastic! The kids were able to learn a lot and interact with many different reptiles!

Lego Weekends

February 06, 2009

Ever wonder what the Halifax Harbour would look like if it was made out of Lego? This weekend is your last chance to catch it at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. We went as a family last weekend to see it in person. Both the kids and the adults were flabbergasted! The Lego set up was amazing and inspirational. All this week we have been building cities, houses, and stores with our  Read more...

February - A New Beginning

February 02, 2009

February the month of Love. It is also usually the beginning of later winter, early spring! The harshness of December and January fades, the snow melts and once again we can venture outdoors. I am so ready to celebrate that! So what is up and coming in Halifax for kids in February to keep that cozy, melting, warm thoughts going? Art Gallery of Nova Scotia The Art  Read more...

99 Things Continued ...

January 27, 2009

Back in September I started a list of 99 things I want to experience with the children in Halifax . So far we have done some of the things listed. We attempted to go whale watching twice last summer. Both times we did not see any whales. My preschooler was so disappointed! We promised her another trip this coming summer and hopefully we will time it just right! We have went  Read more...

Reflections

January 13, 2009

This weeks top five is a tough one. We are to explore the best places where your child can see his reflection. After pond ering this all afternoon, I figured I would try to choose vastly different places. Swimming - Looking into the water and see your reflection. Then splash, play and enjoy. There are many great indoor pools to head to in Halifax. The Spryfield Wave pool, can be a great  Read more...

I'm Using My Imagination Mommy!

October 14, 2008

My child has a vivid imagination. In fact I am usually the one to try to bring her down to earth rather than inspiring her. There are many ways to encourage an active imagination in children at the preschool age. If you are searching for places to inspire look no further. The first place a child's imagination is sparked is right at home. Provide open ended toys, such as Play Silks,  Read more...

Another History Lesson - The Titanic

September 22, 2008

Halifax is rich in history and there is so much to share with your little one. Now most preschoolers will not be infatuated with Leonardo DiCaprio or Kate Winslet, yet, however Halifax plays a key role in the history of the famous ship. While one might want to skip the tour our city's cemeteries, where many of the Titanic victims are laid to rest, the history provides a great opportunity to talk  Read more...

5 best "day trips" within an hour

September 17, 2008

Being that we are in Canada, this is very much a seasonal topic. The 5 best day trips in Spring definitely differ from what to do in the summer, fall and winter months. Now that the leaves are beginning to change colours, the big kids are back in school and the weather is cooler, preschoolers have the opportunity to head out and explore before the snow falls. History Lessons

September 05, 2008

The very first museum we explored as a family was The Museum of Natural History , located in downtown Halifax. We arrived in Halifax during a snow storm, and the children were antsy after days of traveling and attempting to settle in. The museum was close to our hotel so we ventured over to take a peek. That same day we bought a season pass. The Museum of Natural History is absolutely fantastic.  Read more...
