Celebrating Earth Day with your Children

Next week is Earth Day, April 22! We try to teach our children to live a sustainable and green life everyday, however celebrating always helps anchor those ideals. In an effort to plan our day I have been soaking up as much as I can, looking for activities that will help me teach our kids about Earth Day. Here are so ideas I have come across:

I feel very fortunate that my preschooler has an amazing appetite and is willing to try just about anything. My toddler on the other hand is a challenge on the best of days. Since we try to keep our grocery budget in line, we usually have at least one meatless meal a week. When I share this tidbit with other moms, they are usually in awe and often ask what I make. I should mention "meatless" for us means meat. Not necessarily eggs and fish. On our meatless days we opt for refried bean wraps, eggs, steamed fish or homemade mac and cheese. We also have sliced cucumbers at every meal, although with peas or corn as a side. Since the cucumbers are always there, both my kids eat them without thinking about it.

I would have loved to talk about heading outdoors, exploring the Public Gardens, heading to the Valley to explore some farms and the like. However it is just to early in our part of the world to make plans like that. It is not until May that places like the Public Gardens open to the public.
